Dorothy ShermanBorn into a long line of performers and musicians, Dorothy Sherman saw light on February 25th 1978 Eindhoven. According to her father Tony Sherman (Stars on 45 and The Sherman Brothers) Dorothy started to sing as soon as she could talk if not sooner but refused to sing in public because she was very shy. As she grew older, she’d watch her father and uncles perform and after a while her destiny caught up with her when she realized that being a singer was what she wanted.
When her family moved to Curacao in 1992, a young talented female singer, barely fourteen, has joined Tony Sherman’s band. Her name was Dorothy Sherman.
Being in a band and learning from the best made her confidence grow and her shyness disappear, as her singing and performing skills got better. Age sixteen Dorothy decides to spread her wings and joins one band after another while still performing with her father.
In 1999 she leaves the tropical shores of Curacao and moves back to Holland. She hooks up with her brother MC Andy Sherman, starts to accompany Andy to gigs and even gets on the mic every now and then.
Her performances don’t go unnoticed and she gets invited to do some studio work. She records tracks with her brother Andy (for Artfull Dodger), works with Giorgio Tuinfort (producer Gwen Stefani and Akon), Dutchflower (Total Touch, Berget Lewis) and many more.
In 2004 she moves again, this time to Canary Islands. Alongside her singing family Dorothy performs at Motown shows in 5 star hotels for three years in a row until she decides to move back to Holland, though she still makes frequent trips abroad to perform with her father.
Various productions follow as she teams up with her brother Andy again. She gets noticed by a number of prominent Dutch dj’s and producers. With DJ Roog (Hardsoul) she records “Believe” and “Three minutes to explain” (Dorothy & Andy Sherman with Fedde le Grand & Funkerman, Flamingo Records) follow shortly.
Although singing has always been her first love, recently Dorothy has found herself a new challenge: MC-ing.
So please beware of Ms Dorothy Sherman. She might still have this “new kid on the block” –feel about her but she definitely delivers on her promises and sounds as solid as if she’d been around for years. Whether she’s doing a new song or MC-ing on a Friday night at your club. Or both.
